Estate Planning & Administration

Estate Planning

As a law firm that assists clients with preparing vital documents such as Advance Directives for HealthCare, Health Care Powers of Attorney, and Living Wills, we are open and available to assist you.

We remind our clients to look at their Wills and Powers of Attorney every five years to make sure the documents are up-to-date and meet their needs and expectations. Laws change. Interpretations of those laws change. People change. Life changes, as we see with the global pandemic.

Incapacity and Guardianship

When a loved one can no longer understand and communicate effectively, or when a loved one through injury or illness loses one’s judgment to become a potential victim of con artists, we are open and available to assist you.

Attorney Dave Mills was a member of the committee that formed the pro bono Guardian Monitor Program that serves as the “eyes and ears” of the Court in the protection of its Wards.  We can assist you in filing the papers and guide you through the process of adjudication and appointment of a Guardian of the Person and of the Estate of an Incapacitated Person. No one expects to need these services. Let us guide and assist you should it become necessary.

Estate Administration

When a loved one dies, either with a Will or without one, and a Short Certificate is needed to administer an estate, we are open and available to assist you.

We can also conduct “virtual probate” with the Register of Wills in and for the County of York to open the estate.

With the Judicial Center closed to the public, we are equipped to guide you through the process of filing the necessary papers to open the estate so that an estate account can be opened in a timely fashion, assets gathered,  debts and expenses identified, and to allow for a timely calculation and pre-payment of Pennsylvania Inheritance tax to get the discount. Unlike other tax returns, the preparation of this tax return involves the practice of law. Let us assist you in making the best decisions in the time permitted.
