Businesses now face a number of very complex issues relative to their relationships with their employees. Hiring, disciplining, and firing an employee, which might have been routine years ago, may now involve a number of interrelated problems such as discrimination claims, employee benefits and government-imposed entitlements.

We counsel employers in avoiding expensive problems in a broad range of areas such as the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family & Medical Leave Act, age discrimination, disability discrimination, sex discrimination, sexual harassment, unemployment compensation and worker's compensation. Often a quick consultation will avoid an expensive lawsuit. Sometimes, however, suits are unavoidable. In those cases, we defend employers in State and Federal courts as well as before State and Federal discrimination agencies, such as the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission and the EEOC. We prepare or review documents such as personnel policies, contracts and handbooks in order to avoid problems. We also offer consultation services to employers and their human resource personnel in all areas of employment and human resource issues; our hope is to deal with issues proactively and avoid future complaints or litigation.

Often an employer requires quick attention to a problem. Our philosophy of promptness serves us well in immediately meeting with employers, answering questions and quickly taking the necessary steps to deal with the issues at hand and protect the employer from costly litigation.

BYBR also offers representation in labor issues involving unions. We are familiar with the complex issues that arise in the employer/employee relationship when a collective bargaining agreement is involved.
